Fazilah is a colorful member of our desert band. She is from Malaysia but currently studying medicine in Brighton, UK. She wears a hijab and prays five times a day. She has an iPhone app to point her in the direction of Mecca. But don’t let any of that confuse you. She is a free bird with an independent spirit and loves to travel. After this trip, she is off to Iceland for a week. She is a blast to travel with. We have lots of laughs.
At one point, we are talking about how old everyone is. Kevin is 35, but looks like 30. Lucas and Julianna are 25 or so. Now it is Fazilah’s turn. “I am 24”, she says, then “or maybe 25, I can’t remember when my birthday is”. We all laugh hysterically. “I am not very good with numbers”, she says.
After the desert trip, she tags along with me and Rohan to Fez. We have an extra day bed in our room and she becomes part of the gang for the next three days in Fez.
We have a great time together. On the first day, We go on a day trip to Meknes, another imperial city, a small town called Moulay Idriss, named after the founder of Morocco and Volubilis, a Roman ruin.
